Edward J. Petrakakas, 98, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2017. Ed was born in New Bedford, MA and raised in Newark, NJ, prior to residing many years in Brick, NJ. Edward served in WWII from 1942 – 1945 in the 8th Air Force as a radio mechanic operator for B-17 planes as part of Air Offensive Europe. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned 6 Bronze Stars. Edward earned both a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. In 1972, he began a long career with the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth, NJ, retiring in 1995. Edward loved to travel, going to the movies and playing video poker at Harrah’s in Atlantic City.
Beloved husband of 52 years to Maria (Coutoupidis). Devoted father of Anne Maravic and her husband Jacques. Dear brother of Theresa Stathacos and Michael Petrakakos. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, John and Antonia Petrakakas, and his siblings, George Petrakakas and Bessie Boutsikaris.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home 210 Ridgedale Ave. Florham Park on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral on Thursday assembling at 8:30am followed by a service at Saint Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Toms River at 11am. Entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park.
