Yi Fen Liu

Yi Fen Liu, 88, of Livingston, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2021.

Beloved wife of Jing Xi Li.  Devoted mother of Wen Li, her husband Manny Ma; Sandy Cheung, her husband Eric Cheung; Bonny Sou and her husband Way Sou.  Cherished grandmother of Garret, his wife Erin; Stanley and Henry; Alexander, Ivana, and Timothy.  Yi Fen is survived by many loving siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born in Guangzhou, China on May 14, 1933, Yi Fen had an incredible and blessed life. She is remembered by her family and friends as a person who fears God and loves life. In her youth, she was selected for the Chinese Airforce Women Basketball Team and played around the country. After 3 years serving in the Airforce, she went to study Mathematics at South China Normal University where she studied to be a High School Math Teacher. In her 30 years of teaching, she became a mentor, a friend, and “mom” to many of her students. Students, their parents, and her colleagues loved her, looked up to her, and became her lifelong friends around the world.  She immigrated to the US in 1990 and spent her retirement life with her children and grandchildren. Even in retirement, she continued to teach and exemplify empathy.

Yi Fen met her husband in her late 20’s. They were married for 62 years. Their successful marriage is credited to Yi Fen’s character: wise, just, love, care, respect, generous, and patient. She was the matriarch of the family. She has left her legacy of God fearing and her wisdom to her children and grandchildren.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Friday from 10am – 11am followed by a service from 11am – 12:30pm.  Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale in East Hanover.
