Vincent Zammataro Obituary

Vincent "Vince" Frank Zammataro, 92, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully at  home, surrounded by his family on January 6, 2023.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1930, Vince grew-up in the East New York and Bensonhurst sections of the Borough, across an “alley way” from his future wife Emily Longobardi.  Both attended New Utrecht High School where Vince excelled in track & field, particularly the high jump where he was recognized for his “eastern scissor” method and received numerous regional awards, winning an athletic scholarship to Oklahoma State University.  Vince joined the military in 1951 and served as a forward observer for the Field Artillery Branch during the Korean War, marrying Emily in 1952 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He and Emily started his family in Brooklyn of that year.  Working initially as a draftsman and as a construction materials salesman, Vince eventually landed a sales role for the Boiardi Products Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio in 1957.  After 38 years, Vince retired in 1995 as the National Sales Manager for Boiardi, which had then moved to Little Falls, NJ.  He enjoyed surf fishing, golf, travel, horse racing and watching baseball and football over the years.  During these years, Vince involved himself in his children’s school activities including school fund-raising events like “casino night”, scouts, and sports.   An amateur artist of sorts, and playing Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady” on the piano at his home every night after dinner, Vince enjoyed his summers at a family lake house in Andover, New Jersey playing “chicken” with his children, nieces and nephews and teaching them how to swim, dive, sail, skip rocks and fish in the lake.  Vince and Emily moved to East Hanover, New Jersey to be closer to their children and grandchildren in 1989.

Vince is survived and will be missed by his wife of over 70 years Emily (Longobardi) Zammataro, his children Ann Guzewicz, her husband Bob, Frank Vincent Zammataro, his wife Jeannie, Catherine Segreto and her husband Paul.  Forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren Michael Guzewicz, his wife Laura, Emily Fenger, her husband Peter, Kenneth Maxwell “Max” Zammataro, Maris Estelle Zammataro, Laurie Ann Segreto-Siegle and her husband Matt.  He also leaves behind five (5) great grandchildren Penelope Guzewicz, Frankie Guzewicz, Sam Guzewicz, Mollie Ann Fenger and Emma Grace Siegle and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews.

Funeral services to be held privately.
