Vincent J. Ditta, 81, of Berkeley Heights, formerly of East Orange, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, after a long illness.
Known as “Tiny” to his close friends and family, Vincent grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. From a young age, he had a deep love for sports. He played both basketball and baseball at East Orange High School, where he especially distinguished himself as a talented pitcher, leading his team to a state championship season.
Vincent went on to attend William Paterson University. After graduating, he began what would become a more than forty-year career as a dedicated educator with the Newark Board of Education. He touched the lives of countless students over the course of his long and meaningful career.
In retirement, Vincent found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud and constant presence at their baseball, basketball, gymnastics, and wrestling events, always cheering them on from the sidelines.
He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Lucille; devoted father of Christopher, and David and his wife Brooke; and cherished grandfather of Avery and Luke, Dylan, Sebastian, and Logan. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Vincent was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Katherine, and his sister, Markes, and her husband, Dominick.
The memorial visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Thursday, March 5th from 4-7pm. The memorial funeral mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover on Friday, March 6th at 11:15am, followed by a repast.
