Stanley L. Kravitz, Jr. 96, was a veteran of World War II and longtime resident of Chatham, passed away peacefully at his home on October 3, 2023.
Born September 27, 1927, in Wilks-Barre, PA, he was the son of Stanley and Lottie Kravitz. As a teenager he moved with his family to Bridgeport, CT and at the age of 18, Stanley enlisted in the United States Navy where he attained the rank of Engineman Third Class and valued this service highly. He was always willing to share many amazing stories of his time spent in the Navy.
Stanley moved to Chatham in 1972 where he became involved with several local organizations including Chatham Twp Seniors. During this time, he and Helen enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada.
He worked for several years as a mechanical engineer at Overlook Hospital where he joined the N.A.P.E. (National Association of Power Engineers) and later served as president of the New Jersey chapter from 1981-1982. He later changed jobs to work in the engineering department at Novartis in East Hanover, where he continued until he retired.
He was an active member of the Maddison Elks Lodge No. 1465 where he proudly served in many positions including being an Exalted Ruler. He was an active member of the Florham Park American Legion Post 43. He also volunteered at the Lyons VA Medical Center. Stanley was dedicated to volunteering with numerous veterans’ service programs. He was especially proud of being involved with the Boy Scouts of America where he felt honored and privileged to confer the rank of Eagle Scout to numerous young men who were able to obtain that goal.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Helen of 46 years, his parents Stanley and Lottie, and his brother Chester. He is survived by his daughter Patricia and sons Robert, Peter, and Paul. He is also survived by many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Friday from 4-8pm. Funeral on Saturday, assembling at the funeral home at 10am, followed by a prayer service at the funeral home at 10:30am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
