Born and raised in Newark, Salvatore was the son of Orazio and Concetta (DiBella) Granato. Salvatore and Theresa resided in East Orange until 2015, then residing in Parsippany. Salvatore was employed by the East Orange Post Office and retired as a letter carrier.  Salvatore was also a professional musician since his teenage years, having an incredible talent and expertise in playing the alto saxophone. His love of his family, music and his alto saxophone was his life. Salvatore also performed in local concert bands and dance bands until he was well into his 80's. He loved writing music, teaching student’s saxophone lessons, drawing, coloring, calligraphy.

Salvatore served in the United States Army during WWII, overseas in the Pacific, as a bandsman playing in both military and dance bands.

Salvatore loved gardening and woodworking. He loved animals and cared for many who were stray. He especially loved going to his Jersey shore house, during the summer months, with his grandchildren.

Devoted father of Susan and her husband Anthony.  Cherished grandfather of Michael, his wife Laura, Thomas and his wife Maria.  Proud great-grandfather of Chloe, Michael, Angelo, Olivia, Luca and Violet.
