Robert J. Werner, 68, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2022.
Robert grew up in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ and graduated with the class of 1972 from Vailsburg High School.
After graduating from the Essex County Police Academy he was an Essex County Sherriff's Officer for 24 years.
Prior to that he worked as a Sprinkler Fitter with Union 696. He completed a Fire Suppresion course through the University of Pennsylvania.
Robert had many interests. He was a motorcycle enthusiast as well as participating in sporting clays and trap events.
He also enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore, especially Manahawkin and Lake Como. He was a certified NAUI scuba diver and received his training at Truk Lagoon in Micronesia. He was also an avid deep sea fisherman.
Loving son of William R. Werner. Dear brother of Virginia Werner, William Werner and his long-time girlfriend Donna Scarpone. Cherished uncle of Rachael M. Nagy, her husband Chris Nagy, Ryan W. Werner and his fiancé Margaret Ryan. Proud great-uncle of Charles Owen Nagy. Robert was pre-deceased by his mother Catherine Werner.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Tuesday from 4-8pm. Funeral on Wednesday, assembling at the funeral home at 9am, followed by the funeral mass at Holy Family Church in Florham Park at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
