Richard J. Mercuro, 82, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023.
He was born in Summit and raised in South Orange until 1977 when he moved to Florham Park.
Richard proudly served The Township of South Orange's Fire Department for 40 years. He also served in the NJ National Guard.
Son of the late Robert and Betty Mercuro, he leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years Sheila (McManus) Mercuro; his loving children Robert Mercuro and Kristine (Mercuro) DiRocco and his 4 most cherished grand children Nicole and Bobby Mercuro and Holeigh and Joelle DiRocco. Richard also leaves behind a son in law Christopher Di Rocco and a daughter-in-law Elma Mercuro and his beloved sister Carol Mercuro Commins. He is pre deceased by his 2 brothers Robert and Peter and sisters in law Marie, Marian, and Pat Mercuro and late brother in law Ben Commins. HE also leaves behind his many loved nieces and nephews: Michael Commins and his wife Paola, Peter Mercuro , Lisa Callas and her husband William, Gina Baraldi and her husband Michael, Ava Sperrazza and her husband Michael, Elissa Commins, Anthony Mc Manus, Elizabeth Marano and her husband Louie, and Jennifer Raggi and her husband Mike. He also has many great nieces and nephews.
Richard was a quiet man but loved his family fiercely. His grand kids were the light of his life but his love for animals, most especially his many Labradors jokingly trumped them all. He also leaves behind his sweet Little 3 year old Labrador Elleigh
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Monday from 4-8pm. Funeral on Tuesday, assembling at the funeral home at 9am, followed by the funeral mass at Holy Family Church in Florham Park at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
