Remedios F Marti

Remedios Famador Marti, 89, of Jersey City, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on December 5, 2023.

Remedios - known to her close friends and family as Nita or Remy - courageously immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in 1973 with her two sons - Rory and Randy. Her husband Rodolfo (Rudy) soon followed. Like many immigrants, Nita and her husband worked tirelessly and persevered through adversity to give their sons the best opportunity for a rich and fulfilling life. Nita herself faced numerous challenges and hardships, being a woman of a different culture in 1970s Jersey City and having significantly limited resources and means. She became a licensed registered nurse, passing her board exam in the top percentile. She proceeded to serve and care for patients in various departments including operating room, emergency room, medical surgical floor for many years at the original Jersey City Medical Center, until she retired in 1998. During her retirement, Nita was finally able to allow herself to enjoy the well-deserved fruits of all her labor and indulged in her love of family, traveling, food, and especially shopping. Throughout her life, even until the end, she never ceased being a thoughtful, brilliant, funny, and faithful person, continuing to give generously and impart her unique wisdom unto her family and close friends.

Nita's proud legacy lives on through her sons Rory and Randy, their respective spouses Liza and O'Hara, her grandchildren (Ryan and his wife Jazzica, Megan, Kevin and his wife Victoria, and Vincent Leo and his wife Rachel), her great-grandchildren (Rumi Gracen and Arianne Nicole), and her beloved sisters (Josephine Pelaez and Sylvia Ouano). Nita's life is also cherished and celebrated by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

As Nita departs from this world, she reunites with her husband Rudy in heaven along with her parents, Anastacio Famador and Carmen Climaco Famador, and her identical twin sister, Guadalupe Varela.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Thursday from 4-7pm.  Funeral on Friday, assembling at the funeral home at 9:15am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, 312 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover at 10:15am.
