Peter Chimento Obituary

Peter O. Chimento, 60, of Rockaway, formerly of Whippany, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on May 9, 2021.  Peter worked many years with the International Long Shoreman’s Association Local 1235 in Newark.

A lover of whiskey, good food, motorcycles, history, camaraderie, antiques, cooking, quiet evenings outside, music, the ILA, humor, and above all, family, Peter walked this earth exuding love to everyone he has ever met. He took pride in his family and bragged about his children often. Peter lived a very selfless life, giving pieces of his big heart to everyone lucky enough to have been graced with his presence. He worked harder than most to provide for his family, up until he couldn’t anymore. Peter was a true gentleman, and hands down one of the greatest men most of us have ever met. Peter would not want us to cry and mourn, but instead celebrate the life he lived. Peter would want us all to keep his spirit alive in whatever way we feel best because heroes get remembered, but legends never die.

Beloved husband of Alicia (Flory) Chimento.  Devoted father of Peter, Ashley, Xander and Chelsea.  Cherished son of Maria and the late Carmine Chimento.  Dear brother of Sonny Chimento, his wife Deborah, Anthony Chimento and his wife Dianne.  Loving uncle of Samantha and Emily Chimento.  He is also survived by many loving cousins, extended family, unadopted children, and good friends.
