Norma P. Hill, 98, of Kenilworth, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2016 at Brighton Gardens in Florham Park.  Norma was born Norma Sarah Pollitt on September 24, 1917 to Edward and Florence (Richter) Pollitt of Bloomfield, NJ.  Norma’s father died 15 months later and Norma and her mother moved to Verona, NJ, following her mother’s second marriage to William Krach.  They resided there for the next 3 years during which time Norma met Annie Oakley, the sharpshooter in Buffalo Bills Wild West Show.  In 1926 Norma’s family moved to Sussex County for her stepfather’s health.  There they settled in Lafayette where Norma was educated in a one room school house.  Norma graduated grammar school in 1931.  The class of ’31 totaled 12 students.  She next entered Newton High School and then transferred to Bloomfield, where she would live with her aunt Sadie McClellan.  Norma graduated H.S in 1936, and stated work at the Bloomfield Department of Water.  While still in H.S., she met her future husband Edward H. Hill while visiting relatives in Wallkill, NY.  They married in October, 1941 and the union lasted 68 years.  Soon after the US entered WWII and Edward served in the Army from 1942-1945, he was attached to the 94th infantry in European Theater.  During the war, Norma served as Red Cross Volunteer at Mountainside Hospital.  After the war, Edward and Norma bought a house in Kenilworth, NJ, where they raised three children, Suzanne of Florham Park, Glenn of Basking Ridge and Edward of Scotch Plains.  Ed and Norma moved to Florham Park in 2006.  While in Kenilworth, Norma worked at Harding School from 1961-1992.  She also attended Union College in Cranford and graduated at the age of 76.  Norma’s husband, Edward pre-deceased her in December, 2009.  Norma is also survived by her grandchildren Mark Di Lauri, Robin Filippone, Gregory Hill, Thomas Hill and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Joseph Filippone, Thomas and Christina Di Lauri.  

A memorial visitation will be held at Leonardis Memorial Home 210 Ridgedale Ave. Florham Park on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
