Michael Cocco Obituary

Michael A. Cocco, loving husband and father, dies at 59

Michael A. Cocco, of Florham Park, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, 2024. He was 59 years old.

Michael, known as Mike, worked for 18 years at RWJBarnabas Health, the state’s largest health care system. It was here that he met his wife to be, Beth McCabe. After leaving Barnabas in 2007, he served as Director and then Vice President of International Operations and Security for Synchronoss Technologies. His dozen years at Synchronoss included a 4-year stint in Galway, Ireland. Most recently, Mike was Vice President at Catalyst Capital.

Mike grew up in Orange, NJ and graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School in 1982, and Seton Hall University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. He was part of both the Prep and University baseball teams, which helped nurture his passion for the national pastime.

Mike was known for his big personality, sharp sense of humor and love of storytelling. He brought all three of these traits to his family relationships and innumerable friendships. They also played a role in his lifetime of coaching. He mentored many a ballplayer over the decades, from Seton Hall University student-athletes in the 1980s up until his children’s teams most recently. He even coached baseball in Ireland. Mike’s signature line was a mantra he learned at Seton Hall: “Never Lose Your Hustle.”

Mike had many professional and sporting accomplishments, but he was first and foremost a family man. His proudest accomplishments were his marriage to Beth, and his children Michael and Molly. He lived a full life and always prioritized faith, family, and friends.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Beth) Cocco (née McCabe), son Michael, daughter Molly and mother in law DJ McCabe. He is also survived by his siblings and siblings in law, Philip Cocco, Karen Cocco, Jeffrey Cocco, Stephen Cocco and wife Cathy, Melissa Lagemann and husband David, Tom McCabe and wife Susie, in addition to numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael was pre-deceased by his parents Philip and Isabel Cocco, and his father in law Donald McCabe.
