Max F. "Mickey" Buttenmuller, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, raised in Brooklyn, NY, Mickey spent his summers in Monroe, NY—with each of these places helping shape his youth and character. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, a time he often spoke of with pride. After his military service, Mickey pursued a successful career in commercial real estate, primarily in Manhattan.
Mickey was the beloved husband of the late Ann Buttenmuller, with whom he shared sixty-four wonderful years of marriage. Their love story began at the Jersey Shore and blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with joy, laughter, and devotion. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home where family and friends were always cherished.
He was a devoted father to MaryAnn and her partner Christopher, Thomas and his wife Jennifer, Brian, and Michael. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Brenden, Timothy, Brooke, and Brandt. Mickey’s family was his greatest source of pride, and he loved sharing stories of his youth, Navy days, and summers in Monroe—always with a smile on his face.
An avid golfer, Mickey, could often be found on the greens at Spring Brook Country Club or Flanders Golf Course. A loyal fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, he never missed a game. During the summer months, he enjoyed relaxing on his screened-in porch, watching golfers go by, or enjoying a drink with friends—simple moments that brought him great happiness.
Mickey was predeceased by his wife, Ann; his parents, Max and Thea Buttenmuller; his sister, Virginia; and his daughter-in-law, Jayne.
He will be remembered for his warmth, storytelling, and the love he so freely gave to everyone around him.
