Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend
Mary Jane (nee O'Dea) Peter, 88, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Born in Queens, NY, she moved to Florham Park in 1975 and raised her family in this wonderful community. She proudly belonged to Holy Family Parish and was a member of the Rosary Society and the Suburbanites. She worked on countless committees while her children attended Holy Family School and continued to assist in counting collection money up until last year.
After raising her children, Mary worked at The College of St. Elizabeth in Admissions and then for the Borough of Florham Park in the Building Department and as Court Administrator. When she retired, she enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and spending time at the Florham Park Pool with her family and friends. Mary was an incredible wife, mother and grandmother. Her family loved her deeply and she will be greatly missed. She was their Number One Fan, attended every school event, every game, every graduation, everything possible and always offered encouraging words of wisdom. Mary told it like it was and loved her family unconditionally. She leaves a faith filled legacy for her family and her spirit will live on in all of them.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Arthur, of 59 years, her devoted children, Eileen (Pat), Nancy (Glenn), Regina (Pam), and seven amazing grandchildren who loved her very much; Mary Shannon, Joe, Colleen, John, Matthew, Ellen and Andrew. She also loved her grand dogs, Sammy, Franco and Bella & Biscuit, her brother Timothy O'Dea (Blakie), of Venice Beach, FL, and her sister Bernadette Kane of Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, Timothy and Ellen O’Dea.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Wednesday from 4-7pm. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, 9:30am at Holy Family Church in Florham Park, followed by the interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted for Holy Family School, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park, NJ 07932, a place that was influential in the lives of her children.
