Maria Weigel Obituary

Maria C. Weigel (Cordileone), 72, of Toms River, formerly of Bergenfield and West New York, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020.

Family is what was most important to Marie, also known as Mariuccia or Mary, to those closest to her. She loved bringing people together and feeding them until they were ready to burst. If you know Marie, then you have probably been to her house for a "small" meal, a big party, or even just a cup of coffee. She loved to host because she was happiest when everyone she loved was under one roof. She was the wise matriarch of her family, dispensing tough love and big hugs in equal measure. When she wasn't surrounded by those who loved her, she enjoyed reading and nurturing her garden. Mary also loved to travel with her husband and take videos and photos of her family and adventures. Although Mariuccia had traveled around the world, her favorite place to visit was the homes of her family in Ragusa, Sicily, the place of her birth, where she learned the importance of famiglia, and of course, how to cook. Although Mary had many names, the name she loved the most is Nana. The center of her universe was her 10 grandkids; they will forever cherish the time they got to spend with their beloved Nana, and her spirit will live on through them.

Beloved wife of 51 years to William "Bill" Weigel.  Devoted mother of David W. Weigel, Danielle Catando, her husband Justin, Bill C. Weigel, his wife Allison, Christina Wurst and her husband David.  Cherished grandmother of Marquesa and Evo, Julia, Alyssa, Lexi and Laney, Elle and Devon, Ryan and Ava.  Dear sister of Biagina DiPasquale and Carolina Squillace.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Maria is pre-deceased by her parents Giovanni and Francesca Cordileone and her siblings Giovanni Cordileone and Giuseppe Cordileone.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm.  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and Occupancy limitations, visitors are asked to pay their respects and limited their stay, in order for others to be able to enter the building.  Masks are required and all are asked to practice social distancing when possible.  It is suggested to keep physical contact to a minimum, and if you have any trepidations or concerns, the family understands and you have their support.

The funeral mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover on Saturday at 11am, followed by the Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  For those whom are not able to attend, the funeral mass will be offered virtually by visiting the church’s website on Saturday at 11am…. https://saintroseoflimachurch.org/livestream-mass.
