Maria Stramaglia Obituary

Maria I. Stramaglia (née Di Domenico), 89, a long-time resident of Florham Park, passed away peacefully with her son by her side on October 28, 2020.

Maria was born and raised in Aquilonia, Province of Avellino, Italy, the daughter of Gildo and Nicolina Di Domenico (née Tartaglia.)  She resided in Avellino for many years before marrying and immigrating to the United States in 1968. She and her family lived in Madison before settling down in Florham Park in 1978, where they have since resided for over 42 years.

Maria's career in the food service industry spanned over 20 years, starting as a cook at the Madison High School cafeteria, and then as a prep cook at Exxon Research in Florham Park, before she finally retired in 1996. She realized her dream of becoming a naturalized US citizen in 2000.

Maria was a kind and generous woman, deeply rooted in faith and fiercely devoted to family. She put a smile on the face of everyone who met her. Her passion was cooking, and her traditional Italian Sunday and holiday dinners regularly filled her home with delicious aromas and the laughter of boisterous family gatherings. She and her family spent many summer vacations visiting relatives back in Italy or enjoying the warm beaches down in Wildwood. In her spare time, she also enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and watching TV.

Beloved wife of 48 years to the late Errico Stramaglia. Devoted mother of Anthony L. Stramaglia.

Maria was predeceased by her parents, Gildo and Nicolina, her husband, Errico, her two sisters, Clara Cavaliere and Elia Tulimiero, and five brothers, Agostino, Albino, Nicola, Orlando, and Pasquale Di Domenico. She is survived by her son, Anthony, and numerous nieces and nephews residing in Italy, France and the US.
