Maria Pouliot (formerly Mary Hallax of Newark)
Maria Hallax Pouliot, 95, of Lakewood, formerly of Morristown, passed away on May 29, 2024. She was born and raised in Newark New Jersey. She was a devoted member of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark for 80 years. The Church then merged into Saints Nicholas Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where she continued to be an active member as a steward. She received her 60-year pin for being a member of the Philoptochos organization of the Church and was also a President of the Daughters of Penelope. She loved her Church and participated in the PTO and choir when she was younger.
Maria was President of the Woman’s Initiative of Newark for 20 years.
Maria was the beloved wife of Joseph Lawrence Pouliot who predeceased her. Additionally, she was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Diakou, Bill Morris, Miguel Hallax and George Hallax and dear niece Victoria Hughes.
She is survived by her devoted son, Gregory (Julie) Pouliot of Wall, grandchildren Michael (Alison) Pouliot of Boulder, CO and Nicole (Michael) Riccioli of Blue Bell, PA, six great grandchildren and dear siblings Billy Hallax, Elaine Winans and Stacey Lou. She adored her nieces Alexis (Peter) Geannakopoulous, Karen Diakou and Maria (Jack) Ferguson. Her family is indebted to Janet, her compassionate and devoted caregiver.
Maria’s passions included dance, music, travel, cooking, her Greek heritage and first and foremost, her family.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Monday, June 3rd from 4-7pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4th, 11am, at Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland at 11am, immediately followed by the interment at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange.
In lieu of flowers, her wishes were for donations to Saints Nicholas Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Laurel Ave, Roseland.
