Maria Carvalho Obituary

Maria “Suzy” (nee: Linhares) Carvalho, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Piscataway, NJ on Tuesday April 13, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; raised in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Azores. A resident of the Ironbound Section of Newark since her arrival in 1960. She worked for Krementz Jewelry in Newark until her retirement 1997.

Wife of the late Manuel Carvalho. Loving mother of Marie Williams husband Donald M. Williams, Sidonia Jesse late husband Uve Jesse, Joe Carvalho, partner Mary Anne Manning.  A proud grandmother to Carl & Erin Marabuto, Nicole & Jean Andre, Eric & Ashley Jesse, Jennifer Banjany & partner Richard Philips, Jessica and Mike Manzo, Joseph Carvalho, Alex Jesse, Marc Jesse and partner Brianne O’Donnell. And loving step-Grandma to Amy Jesse and Kathryn Williams.  Beloved great-grandmother to Jazmin & Luke Beaman, Brianna Andre, Kyle Andre, Vincent Marabuto, Adrian Marabuto, Kaylin Marabuto, Brayden Marabuto, Ava Banjany, Scarlett Banjany, Lily Philips, Olivia Jesse, Jack Jesse, Ayden Carvalho and step great-granddaughter Hemma Jesse.  She is survived by her sister Maria de Fatima Goncalves of Canada, Sister-in-laws Maria Linhares of Newark NJ, Maria Eduarda Linhares of Toms River NJ, Beatriz Vieria of West Warwick RI. She has many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins throughout USA, Canada and Azores.

She is preceded by her brothers Antonio Linhares, Jose Linhares, Manuel Vieria, Paulo Vieria, Brother in-laws Francisco Carvalho, Paulo Goncalves and Joao Viveiros, and sister-in-laws Conceicao Viveiros, and Gilda Vieria.

She touched many with her love and generosity of spirit, she treasured the kindness of Andrea Marabuto, Begonia Morado, Elizabeth Marques and her Krementz family. She also leaves behind adopted grandchildren Aliyah and Mekayla that lovingly called her Vavo.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue on Sunday from 2-5pm.  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, visitors are asked to pay their respects and then exit to allow others to enter the building.  Masks are required and all are to practice social distancing. 

The funeral on Monday will be held privately to the family.
