Margaret Ann (Peggy) Hughes, (Horkan) of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026.
Peggy was born in Orange, NJ and graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in 1958. She started her working career as a telephone operator for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in 1957 and continued her career at Dunn and Bradstreet in East Orange. After marrying Jack on August 26th, 1961, they moved to Florham Park where they raised their children, Donna, Kelly and Jeff. Peggy worked in the medical field as a surgical scheduler for many years in and around Morris County, where she was known for her dedication, kindness, and wit. She enjoyed playing in the Florham Park Women’s Tennis League with her friends, and took great joy in attending the many sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Peggy was a woman of strong Catholic faith, and she and Jack were devoted parishioners of Holy Family Church in Florham Park for many years. Peggy loved shopping and was well known for never leaving a store empty-handed and never arriving at a party empty-handed, always bringing thoughtful gifts for her grandchildren. She treasured summers spent with her family at Bethany Beach making lasting memories. Her most treasured summer vacation was in 2020 at Bethany Beach where she enjoyed a 2-week family reunion with over 21 people who she loved and loved her back.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jack, and her devoted children, Donna Niro, Kelly Kendelski (Gary), and Jeff Hughes (Lisa). She was a cherished grandmother of Michael, Jenna, Steven, Cory (Caitlin), Kyle, Jamie, Ryan and Dylan and a proud great-grandmother of Cooper Hughes Kendelski. She is survived by many other relatives and close friends.
Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Mary Horkan and her brother Jackie Horkan.
The memorial visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Tuesday, March 17th from 4-7pm. The memorial funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church in Florham Park on Wednesday, March 18th at 9:30am.
