Lorraine “Lor” Martino (nee Fulman), 93 years young, of Florham Park, NJ, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving children by her side on May 1, 2020.
Lorraine was born and raised in Newark, NJ. She graduated from West Side High School and then moved to the Vailsburg section of Newark in 1958 when she married. She raised her children in Vailsburg before moving to Florham Park 43 years ago. Some of Lor’s fondest memories are of her childhood on South 6th Street in Newark and the many friends and relatives who gathered in her house all those years. Lorraine was an only child who often commented that she never felt like she was an only child because of the many friends and relatives who enriched her life.
Devoted mother of Ms. Gina L. Martino, Ralph J. Martino and his longtime girlfriend Patty. Sister-in-law of Dr. Eloise Martino Forster. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, her lovable granddog Joey and many friends. She is pre-deceased by her husband and father of her children, Frank P. Martino and her parents Joseph & Genevieve (nee Panaggio) Fulman.
Upon graduation from high school, Lor worked for 16 years for the US Treasury Department in the tax division where she met and then married Frank. She then left full-time work to raise her children while employed as an aide in the Newark Public Schools. After her children were grown, she worked in Macys for 20 years as a retail specialist and then was promoted to the Lead Cashier in the administrative office. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Morristown Memorial Hospital for close to 20 years, just retiring at age 90!
Lorraine was an inspiration to all who knew her. Despite being widowed young, Lor moved forward with life to continue to nurture a loving environment for her children. She loved Frank Sinatra, shopping-especially for shoes, ice cream, the Jersey Shore; especially the beach and mini-golf where at 92 could still score a couple holes in one. She also loved all animals with her favorites being dogs, elephants, dolphins and cardinals. Hobbies included watching continuous episodes of Law and Order, reading and traveling with her trip to Italy being one of the highlights of her life. Lor cherished dining out and car rides with her son. Most of all, she just loved spending quality time with her children and extended family and friends. Lorraine was a smart, sweet, strong, caring person who found the good in everyone. As a close relative so eloquently put it “She was a very easy person to be around”. Our Mom was simply awesome and the best mother you could ask for.! We will miss her immensely.
Funeral services held privately. A memorial service will be held at a later date, please check back for further information.
