Long Peng, 76, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Chih Gian (Chris) Peng.
Mr. Peng was born in Harbin, China in 1945 and was raised in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Long emigrated to the United States in 1972 for post-graduate studies, and was a graduate of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan and Minnesota State University, Mankato. He went on to a long-standing career in the financial services industry as a Financial Statistician, and was a dedicated employee of several established companies, including Bear Stearns, Standard & Poor's (S&P), and Forbes Magazine.
Long had several pastimes that he was passionate about throughout his life. He was an avid player of table tennis and billiards, and was a lifelong student of Yang-style T'ai Chi Ch'uan, studying for many years with descendants of Yang Chengfu. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family and making new friends through local clubs and associations. He served as Treasurer of the Madison Table Tennis Club and as President of the Evergreen Ping Pong Club at the Parsippany Community Center. Long’s enthusiasm for his hobbies was infectious and he found joy in inviting one and all to join him in activities, and fostered a sense of community among friends, old and new.
Long never knew a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed. He greatly enjoyed getting to know people, and will be remembered best as a compassionate and selfless friend with a big heart and a great sense of humor. He is deeply loved by many surviving family members and friends, and we take comfort in knowing that Long is now at peace, surrounded by light.
Mr. Peng was the devoted father of Julie Peng and her partner Colby Hausmann, and Stephen Peng; and the dear brother of Lili Chiu and Chen Chen Lin. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Yen Yen Chin and Christina Kung.
Visitation will be held privately. A memorial service to be planned for a future date.
Mr. Peng was a generous, long-time supporter of many worthy causes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Long’s memory to a charity of your choice.
