Lois Veronica Orgel (Friberg), 88, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Lois was 88 and had been wrestling with several serious illnesses in recent years. In a word she was amazing. Born and raised in Manhattan and later settling in East Hanover. A terrific wife, mother to 4 kids, grandmother to 6, and great-grandmother to 7. She was also an amateur painter and musician, an avid accordion and piano player. She was a spiritual advisor and the official family historian on both sides!! She was always up on the news and world events. She also loved reading, her puzzles, and old movies, but most of all loved us very much. Lois (grandma & mom) and Steve (grandpa & dad) would have been married 70 years this December. She also loved to vacation with her family in Wildwood Crest, where she could be found under a blanket, in a well air-conditioned hotel room with the blinds closed!!! Occasionally taking a walk to the beach wearing her giant brimmed hat to keep the sun away! As she sat and enjoyed the view, she knew the familiar sight of her husband swimming out past the buoys would soon be followed by the sound of the lifeguards' whistles! Another great story about mom/grandma, dating back to 1950 in NYC. Dad/Grandpa, a huge Brooklyn Dodgers fan, noticed some guy name Jackie Robinson standing in a corner drug store, Dad/grandpa was said to have been frozen, almost unable to speak, at seeing one of his idols. So his date, mom/grandma, of course steps in to make the introduction. That’s who she was, always clearing the way for us. She said Jackie was very nice and gracious. Losing both parents/grandparents within 5 short months is tough, but we all have lots of great memories and plenty of strength that comes from them.
Devoted mother of Joseph Orgel, his wife Karen, Robert Orgel, Paul Orgel, his wife Dania Rodriguez, Therese Tomaro and her husband Biagio. Cherished grandmother of Justin, his wife Angela, Jared, his wife Denise, Isabella, Phillip, his wife Katerina, Nicholas and Matthew. Proud great-grandmother of Joseph, Luke, Madeline, Jake, Jackson, Audriana and Emma. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lois was pre deceased by her husband Stephen Orgel of 69 years, her parents Louis and Veronica Friberg, and her brother Robert Friberg.
