Leonardo Margotta

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Leonardo Margotta, 91, of Florham Park, NJ on June 24,2026.   

Leonardo Margotta affectionately known to so many as Lenny or Nardino was born on August 11, 1934, in the beautiful town of Calitri, Province of Avellino, Italy.  Lenny was the beloved son of Giovanni and Rosa Margotta. His journey began with selfless acts of devotion; as a young man, he left school early so his brothers could pursue their education, showing a spirit of sacrifice that would define his entire life. Under his father’s careful guidance, Lenny became an apprentice, learning the crafts of barbering and tailoring—skills he would use to support and care for those he loved.

Lenny’s life was transformed when he met Angela Masini in Pescopagano, Italy. Their bond grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were married in Angela’s hometown on February 2, 1959. Together, they bravely embarked on new adventures—first moving to Caracas, Venezuela, and then, in 1969, to the United States, where they began their American journey in Orange, New Jersey.

Lenny’s legacy is deeply rooted in his love of family, his Italian heritage, and his extraordinary talents. In Venezuela, he provided for his growing family as a barber, and in New Jersey, he pursued his passion for tailoring, earning the respect of many as a Foreman in a manufacturing company.  In 1988 Lenny and Angela’s dream of entrepreneurship blossomed when they opened MARS Sportswear in Orange, New Jersey. Through their hard work and partnership, they served notable brands like Calvin Klein, Talbots, Gay Boyer and Jordache, continuing their business until their well-earned retirement in 2004.

Lenny’s devotion to family and tradition was evident in every aspect of his life. He delighted in making homemade wine, cherished the tradition of Sunday family dinners—and treasured annual trips to Italy, where he reconnected with loved ones and his roots. Lenny’s kitchen table, always ready for visitors, was a place for espresso, stories, and laughter.

A true craftsman, Lenny enjoyed fixing things, whether it was a sewing machine, espresso machine or a stubborn clock.  He was always readily available to perform alterations for a friend or family member. His hands were always busy, and his heart always open.

Above all, Lenny was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. Though he was predeceased by his beloved wife Angela after 66 years of marriage, his memory and legacy live on in the hearts of his children—John, Rosa, Rita, Leonardo Jr.—and his cherished grandson, Gino. He is also survived by his brother, Guiseppe Margotta (wife Cristina), as well as loving nieces, nephew and great nephew.  He was also predeceased by his brother Mario and his nephew Giovanni. 

Let us come together to celebrate the remarkable life Lenny lead, the sacrifices he made, the love he shared, and the enduring legacy of kindness and strength that he leaves behind.

A Mass in Lenny’s honor will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 312 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ, followed by the entombment at Gate of Heaven in East Hanover.
