Larry Mersel Obituary

Larry Mersel, 87, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2021.  Larry was a US Army Veteran and graduated from Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh.  He began his career as an architect at Philip Johnson in New York, then worked at boutique firms before retiring from HLW in New York City.  A highlight of his later career was an assignment accompanying the Army Corps of Engineers in former Soviet Republics, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan to renovate United States embassies. He was also a professor for more than 45 years, first at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and later at The New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan.

Beloved husband of 51 years to the late Irmgard (Wirtgen) Mersel.  Devoted father of Andrew M. Mersel, his wife Kim, Alexis Mersel Bennett and her husband Andrew Bennett.  Loving grandfather of Jamie and Lauren Mersel and Addison Ireland Bennett.  Dear brother of Rosalind Mersel.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life at a later date
