Judith M. “Judy” Armstrong, 85, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Judy was the beloved daughter of Francis and Veronica (Vera) Shaw and grew up alongside her siblings, Frank, who predeceases her, and Susan, who survives her. She later settled in Union, NJ, where she raised her family and built a warm, lively home filled with love, laughter, and summers spent at the Jersey Shore creating cherished memories with her children.
Judy began her working life as a “Kelly Girl” temporary secretary, later becoming a legal secretary for a local attorney. She eventually found her calling in real estate, enjoying a successful career with Coldwell Banker.
Upon retiring, Judy and her beloved husband, the late Edward J. Armstrong, moved to the Pocono Mountains. Together, they embraced the beauty of nature, frequenting local restaurants, attending community events, and seeking out live music. Judy found peace in her garden and joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether it was the quiet of the mountains, the salt of the beach, or the laughter of friends. She was famous for her delicious Irish Bread and was always ready to share a glass of wine and a good conversation with company.
Judy was the devoted mother of James F. Fitzpatrick and his wife Anne, John W. Fitzpatrick and his wife Janet, Michael P. Fitzpatrick and his wife Sandy, and Christopher T. Fitzpatrick and his wife Antje. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness.
Visitation will be held at Leonardis Memorial Home, 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by committal prayers and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
