Joseph A. Magotch Sr., 91, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Care One in Livingston.
He was born in Mahanoy City Pennsylvania on March 3, 1930, to the late Andrew and Susan (nee: Jenchik) Magotch, and was a long-time Elizabeth resident.
Joseph proudly served the nation as a member of the U.S. Navy from June 1948-May 1952, in which he was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the USS Macon CA-132 before being deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. Upon being discharged from the Navy, Joseph moved to Bayonne, New Jersey. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Peter’s College. He married the love of his life Elizabeth “Betty” (nee: Mantia) Magotch on August 24 1963.
Joseph worked for Western Electric before being employed as an accountant/bookkeeper for Rodermond Industries - NY Shipyard for over 30years.
He was an avid Phillies & Eagles fan. He adored his daughter in law, Sevda Magotch and considered her the daughter he never had. He loved his two grandchildren Amanda & Jonathan “J.J.”. He did not miss one dance recital, birthday, baseball game, hockey practice or game, paintball or skateboarding practice. He was overjoyed seeing Amanda get married to Brian Cain and Jonathan getting married this past September to Kristin Pizzano. He had the pleasure of loving two great grandchildren Addison and Cassidy Cain.
His friends and family always said he was a quiet “kind and gentle man” and “never had a bad thing to say about anyone”.
He is survived by his son Joseph A. Magotch, DDS, and his wife Sevda Magotch; his cherished grandchildren Amanda Cain, and her husband, Brian and their children Addison and Cassidy; Jonathan “J.J.” and his wife Kristin; his sister-in-law Anastasia “Ceil” Mantia and many loving nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (nee: Mantia) Magotch, and his siblings Robert, Edward, James and Josephine Magotch, Mary Kmec, Helen Debusky and Theresa Holdsworth.
The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 5th at St. Genevieve Church in Elizabeth at 11am, followed by the entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Newark.
