Joseph Guffanti Obituary

Joseph Guffanti, 79, of Jackson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 16, 2025.

Beloved husband of 52 years to Dorothy Guffanti.  Devoted father of Melissa Schaefer, her husband Brian, Deborah DeJesus and her husband Hector.  Cherished grandfather of Sean, Ryan and Megan Schaefer, Ava and Julia DeJesus.

Joseph was born and raised in Bronx, New York where he met the love of his life Dorothy. They moved to New Jersey where they raised their two daughters in Long Valley. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Iona University and worked for 40 years in New York State, retiring as Bureau Chief. Even after retirement, Joe continued to help within the community always seeing the best in people, working at Damon House in New Brunswick and then volunteering his time mentoring within school youth programs.

Joe was a devoted husband and father. He was incredibly patient and understanding, raising his daughters with Dorothy. He was his daughters' cheerleader growing up and when married, embraced his sons-in-law as his sons. His greatest joys came from spending time with the family, especially his five grandchildren. Whether it was watching their sporting events, talking to them about school, he always made sure he had a connection with each one of his grandkids. The grandkids have countless memories they will always cherish with him including one of their favorites, when their grandparents took them to Disney.

Some of Joe's favorite moments included traveling with Dorothy, taking road trips up and down the east coast and through the Midwest. Going to the theater, spending time at the beach and also finding the best fine dining restaurants for the kids to try.  Although this hasn't been the highlight the last few years, Joe still continued to cheer on the New York Giants.

He will be remembered as the rock of the family. Kind, understanding and generous.
