John J. Palmieri, 99, formerly of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023.
John served in the US Army during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict. Returning from the Army he attended Seton Hall University and received a degree in History. John began his teaching career in the Newark School System and finally retired after a satisfying career and tenure. He also served as a member of the East Hanover Township Committee and eventually as Mayor of the Township. John went on to serve as the Township Administrator of Mine Hill Township for several years. When he and Lucy began wintering in Florida he served as president of the board of the High Point Condominium Association.
John lead a life of service to his community and was most happy around family and friends.
Beloved husband of Lucy (Ciccone) Palmieri. Devoted father of John Palmieri, Linda Fries, her husband Stephen, Mark Palmieri and his wife Emily. Cherished grandfather of Daina, Melissa, her husband Kenneth, Brian, his wife Lauren, Christie, her husband Matthew, Stephanie, her husband Tom, Mark, his wife Lauren, Nicholas and his wife Kristen. Proud great-grandfather of 15 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Adele Rossi. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John was pre-deceased by his wife Anna, his parents and several siblings.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Monday from 4-7pm. Funeral on Tuesday, assembling at the funeral home at 9am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in E. Hanover at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
