John E. Gunnello, 57, of East Hanover, passed away on July 20, 2023.
Johnny was born in Newark. He lived in Belleville and Newark before moving to East Hanover 23 years ago. Johnny was a successful business owner of Direct Waste Service, CarJon Recycling, and Gunnello Services all located in Newark. He also owned Vespucci’s Marketplace in East Hanover. He was known to many as "Johnny Gatehouse".
Johnny was a beloved husband to his wife of 17 years, Carrie (Gonyea), Devoted father of John William, Dear Son-In-law of Bill and Maryellen Gonyea, Brother of Maria Favata and her husband Andrew, Loving Brother-In-Law of Billy Gonyea and his wife Kerry, Uncle of Alexa and Lucas Gonyea, Alyssa and Andrew Favata, Nephew of Michael and Susan Gunnello, Cousin of Michelle Gunnello and Denise Gunnello-Russoniello. Also many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who he considered family.
Johnny was predeceased by his parents Phyllis and Edward Gunnello.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Sunday from 2-6pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10:30am at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark followed by an entombment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover.
