John DePola Obituary

John M. DePola, 88, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

John retired from Operating Engineers Local 825 where he worked as a Surveyor/Party Chief for close to 40 years.  After retirement, he worked part-time for the Board of Elections in Morristown as well as the Township of East Hanover as a Zoning Officer.  John proudly served as a Councilman for East Hanover for two terms.  He was also President of the Castle Ridge Townhome Association in East Hanover for 25 years.  John was a member of the Livingston and East Hanover Elks and honorably served in the United States Navy.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf especially with his grandchildren. He always looked forward to watching his favorite sports teams, the Giants and Yankees.  He also had a passion for the horse-racing track, the casinos, and playing cards with his friends.  

Beloved husband of 65 years to Anna DePola.  Devoted father of Kimberly Grande, her husband Joseph; Kelly Levy and her late husband John; Karen Ford and her husband Richard.  Cherished grandfather of Joseph, his wife Jordan; Nicholas and his wife Deanna; Corinne, Jonathan, and Ricky.  Dear brother of Rosemarie Sierchio and the late Viola Canfora. He is also survived by his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his cherished puppy, Raffi.

The last two years, John was a resident at Mira Vie in Montville.  He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and the amazing staff.

Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Monday, July 6th from 4-7pm.  Funeral on Tuesday, July7th, assembling at the funeral home at 9am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 10am.  Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
