Jean Clelland

Jean Clelland (Krenkel), 89, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully at her home on May 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. 

Jean was born in Newark, New Jersey, grew up in Irvington, NJ and later moved to East Hanover where she and her husband Allan raised two boys.  She was a graduate of Centenary College in Hackettstown. After graduating from college, she worked for a time in banking until deciding to raise a family.  Jean dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother and her most enjoyable moments were when she was spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren.

Jean will be remembered for her selflessness, generosity, friendships, and kindness.

Some of her favorite moments included spending time at the Jersey Shore with family and friends, hosting holidays at her house, taking her grandkids away on vacations and entertaining others whenever possible.  She loved her “Couple’s Club” group and being an active member of Calvary Church in Florham Park, NJ.  Jean was an active member in many other organizations, including the PTA, Cub Scouts and Eastern Star. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor, living in the moment and enjoying life. She was a very social person who enjoyed laughing and being with others.

She was a beloved wife of 66 years to Allan Clelland.  Devoted mother of Scott Clelland, his wife Kimberly, Bryan Clelland and his wife Robin.  Cherished grandmother of James Clelland, Alexander and Austin Clelland.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Jean was pre-deceased by her parents August and Florence Krenkel, and her brother Ralph Krenkel. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00 AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Florham Park, followed by lunch at the church parish in celebration of Jean’s life.
