John “Jack” Gilbert, 67, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023. He was a beloved husband to his wife of 42 years, Stacy, a devoted father to his sons Bobby (Tatiana) and Danny (Sharon), and a cherished grandfather to Aubrie, Hailey, Reagan, Lucas and Olivia. He is survived by his dear brothers Thomas (Claire), James (Jeanne) and William (Karen). Jack was a much-beloved son to his late parents, Veronica and Thomas Gilbert, and a close-knit son-in-law to Marilyn and the late Harold Siegel.
Jack was raised in the Bronx, New York, and moved to New Jersey in 1985. He led a remarkable life and was respected and loved by the legions of people who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be forever remembered for his generosity, values and contributions.
For over seven years, he served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and retired from Chubb & Son Insurance after 25 years of employment. Notably, he once apprehended a criminal, for which he received a commendation from the Mayor of the City of New York. Last but most certainly not least, Jack was a committed baseball coach to his sons' Little League teams, a passionate fan at their games throughout college, a lifelong New York Yankees rooter, and an avid sports memorabilia collector.
Visitation will take place at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A brief assemblage at Leonardis on Thursday morning at 9:15am will be followed by a committal service and entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge at 10:45 am.
