Beloved husband to Helen Den Braven for 65 years. Devoted father of Mark Den Braven, his wife Cari(Biggar), Donna A. Malkinski and her husband Andrew. Cherished grandfather of Emily and Benjamin Den Braven, Andrew and Elizabeth Malkinski. George was pre-deceased by his parents George W. and Florence Den Braven.
George Den Braven was born in Kearney, NJ on October 23, 1934. He grew up in North Arlington, raised his family in Nutley, and in retirement moved to Denville to be closer with his grandchildren. Helen and George enjoyed traveling around the world together.
George graduated from Upsala College in Business Administration and Economics. George went on to United States Marine Corps, Officer’s Candidate School and honorably discharged 1957. Following his service in the Marine Corps, George built a career working at Allstate Insurance for over 43 years, his 1st and only job after college. George’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family, daughter in-law, son in-law, grandchildren, and friends will never be forgotten. George was a loyal friend to many over the years.
George's passion for sports emulated his character portraying the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. George was a fierce competitor. He enjoyed attending his son & daughter’s, and grandchildren’s athletic events, rarely missing a game! He taught his children that life is a lot like sports, you’ve got to get back up when you fall and keep on trying. In his later years, he continued to play golf until he was 89 years old!
As a sports enthusiast, George loved the NY Yankees, NY Knicks and was a season ticket holder of the NY Giants for many years.
George portrayed humility, love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Affectionately called “Pa” by his grandchildren, George was a man of quiet strength, wisdom and enduring love.
