George T. Carotenuto, 73, formerly of East Hanover & Kearny, passed away at his home in Morristown surrounded by his loving wife and son on December 9, 2021.
George led a fulfilling personal and professional life. A long-time Kearny resident, he was a college graduate, helicopter and airplane and mechanic, and member of the Kearny Fire Department for over thirty years, retiring in 2008 as a Deputy Chief. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. George was an avid woodworker and master carpenter, and he took great pride in all of the home improvement projects that he tackled on his own home, as well as for so many friends and family, including building decks, laying/refinishing floors, remodeling bathrooms, restoring furniture, and installing custom-designed molding. He married his wife, Isabel, in 1987, and they embarked on many painting and decorating projects together over the last four decades.
He was a devoted husband of 34 years to Isabel (DeTrizio) Carotenuto, loving father of George A. Carotenuto, dear brother of Regina Herman, her husband Alan, and Karen Curcio, and beloved uncle of Alyson, Jarred, Kara, Kevin, Diane, Katie, Jenna, and Sam.
George was predeceased by his parents George A. & Ninfia Carotenuto.
Visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Monday, December 13, from 3-7pm. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 14, assembling at the funeral home at 10:15am followed by a mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 11:15am. He will then be entombed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
