It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gail G. Hughes (Wilson), on December 14th at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beacon of kindness and warmth, whose love touched everyone around her.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, she was the second youngest of six children. After marrying her husband Francis, they settled in Irvington, NJ and ran a soda shop/candy store. They were blessed with two daughters, Kathy and Theresa, and relocated to Brick Township to raise their family. Later in life Gail resided in Madison, NJ and at Brighton Gardens in Florham Park, NJ.
Gail worked at Point Pleasant Hospital for many years, where she ran the Central Supply Department, and in her senior years at the Morristown Library, where she met many friends.
Family was the center of Gail’s life. She dedicated herself to not only her own children and grandchildren but extended family as well. Her greatest joy was being with family; she always attended her grandchildren’s events and would be there to support her family in way she could.
Devoted mother of, Kathy Smith, her husband Bob and Theresa Dillon, her husband Rich. Cherished grandmother of Robert Smith, his wife Maya, Tim Dillon and Brian Dillon. Proud great-grandmother of Tibulo, Lucero, and Brooklyn Smith. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All who will forever cherish her memory and carry her legacy of compassion forward.
Gail was predeceased by her late former husband and dear friend Frank Hughes, as well as her beloved grandsons Christopher and Michael Smith, and was the last surviving sibling of six.
Her love will remain in our hearts forever.
