Gail A. Gurry (nee Santos), 82, of Convent Station, passed into eternal rest on October 31, 2021.
Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, she attended St. Columba Grammar School and was a graduate of West Side High School. After graduation, she became a legal secretary, which set her on the path to meeting her beloved husband, Ed. They were the rare couple who could spend every minute of every day with one another, living and working together harmoniously throughout their married life. She became the manager of his law office, assuming all responsibilities of running the business, freeing him to focus on what he loved and what he did best - the practice of law. She also gave Ed, orphaned at the age of 7, the home and the family he never had. For him and for their only child, Christine, Gail created magic inside the walls of their Convent Station home. Though she had no culinary skills when she was first married, she very quickly became an extraordinary cook and baker, known to all for her incredible talent for hospitality and entertaining. She made every guest in her home feel special, but her husband and her child always came first. No matter how busy she was with her professional responsibilities, she made an always delicious dinner with love for her family every night, all while keeping her home immaculately clean and tidy and ironing everything, including socks! She truly did it all, often at the expense of sleep, to make things perfect for her family. Beautiful, through and through, she always put those she loved before herself. In the last years of Ed's life, she cared for him with devotion, steadfast in her commitment that her once-orphaned husband would not end his life in an institution. She was as selfless a person as ever existed, and when she met her Lord, whom she loved, on Sunday morning, no doubt, He told her, "Well done, Gail. Welcome home."
Gail is survived by her devoted daughter Christine Gurry, her dear brother Henry Santos, Jr. and his wife Marguerite. She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 29 years, Edward Gurry and her parents Lucy and Henry Santos, Sr.
