Gail P. Butler, 83, of Florham Park, passed away suddenly on June 7, 2023. She was the devoted mother of Martin E. Butler, Jr. and Melissa G. Butler and is survived by many cousins and friends. Gail was predeceased by her husband Martin E. Butler, Sr., her parents Margaret and Robert Powers, and her sister Barbara McCormick.
Gail was born in Woodside (L.I.), N.Y. and up until she was married lived in their Eastchester, N.Y. second story apartment. Growing up she enjoyed arts and crafts, sports, and her two Bootsie cats. Gail graduated from Eastchester H.S. in 1958, attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School then secured a job at National Distillers in NYC.
Gail met her husband Marty, and in 1969 they got married in the chapel of the JFK airport and hours later flew to Portugal where Marty worked and she lived for a year. While there, Gail became proficient in the foreign language and up until her passing would write her children birthday or holiday cards in Portuguese for fun. For the past 50 years Gail lived in Florham Park where she loved being a Mom and watching her children play sports. She was active in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church's Book club, WELCA committee, and Sew- N- So's. Gail loved to knit, play scrabble (and win!) and play cards. She remained current, witty and loved to laugh. Gail beat stage four cancer twenty years ago and we are Blessed and grateful for her additional years.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Sunday from 12-4pm. Funeral on Monday, assembling at the funeral home at 9:30am, followed by the funeral service at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Florham Park at 10:30am. A repast will immediately follow the service in the church hall.
