Frederick Froehlich Obituary

Frederick W. Froehlich, “Freddy”, 75, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Fred was raised in Summit, NJ, one of five children. He attended Union Catholic High School, where he met friends whom, of recent, he was still in touch with every week. He was a boy scout, musician, and he served as an altar boy in his youth. In his young adult years, he worked as a bartender at places like Scotty’s and Marco Polo. His outgoing, friendly personality made him the right fit for jobs that involved getting to know people and conversing with others.

Fred’s most memorable years were spent with family and with neighbors turned lifelong friends in Florham Park, NJ. He coached his son Daniel’s football and baseball teams and his daughter Adria’s softball teams. With his booming baritone voice, he announced swimmers’ names at the Florham Park Sharks swim meets. He was very involved in the Florham Park Jaycees, serving as president of the organization at one point. He enjoyed selling Christmas trees at the Jaycees tree lot and helping build the Jaycees floats for the Florham Park Fourth of July parades. Of course, everyone loved seeing him dressed as the Easter Bunny at the Jaycees Easter egg hunts.  His favorite times were spent being with people, be it at neighborhood pool parties, barbecues at friends’ houses or at any local town event he could attend. For many years, he attended weekly mass at Holy Family Church, and he taught 8th grade CCD classes, leaving a positive impact on many of the Florham Park youth of the 90’s.

Fred spent his professional career in sales. He sold power tools as an employee of Northland Equipment, a division of Ingersoll Rand. He later did sales for Burt Process Equipment. His love of conversation and making connections with people allowed him to excel in the sales force.

Fred was very passionate about riding motorcycles. He rode his Harley in many parades and considered his fellow riders family. They called him “Piano Man.” Fred also enjoyed planting and gardening. He was very much a “Mr. Fix It” guy and would lend a helping hand anywhere he could do so.

Fred spent his most recent years as a resident of Whippany, NJ. Many people in town knew him as “Grampy,” as he attended his grandsons’ athletic games and cheered on the young athletes in town. There he attended Our Lady of Mercy weekly and was very close to the congregation.  He will be remembered fondly for frequenting both the Florham Park and Whippany diners, where everybody knew his name, and he knew their names.

Fred is survived by and was the devoted father of Adria Bogosian and her husband Scott and the cherished grandfather of Derek and Justin Bogosian. He is survived by and was the dear brother of Jim Froehlich and his wife Cherri and the loving uncle of Hilary Boothby, her husband Adam, and Erin Graebener.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law Larry, his sister-in-law Janet, and many family members and friends.

Fred was predeceased by his son Daniel Michael Froehlich, his parents Fred and Ruth Froehlich, and his siblings Betty, Bob and Tim.
