Florence (Baran) Smith, 87, formerly of Bayonne, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026.
Florence shared a close and loving bond with her siblings throughout her life and was known for the wonderful sense of humor she shared with them. Family traditions were especially important to Florence. Though she did not have children of her own, she took great interest in the lives and accomplishments of her nieces and nephews, carefully saving photographs, newspaper clippings, and awards that marked their milestones.
A familiar and cherished presence at family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations, Florence found joy in simply being together, especially at Easter and Christmas. In quieter moments, she enjoyed old black-and-white films, loved Elvis Presley, and had a special affection for animals and pets, particularly cats and dogs. Those who knew her will remember Florence as gentle, thoughtful, and deeply caring, someone who showed love through presence, humor, and remembrance.
Florence was survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her husbands Albert Barberio and Edwin Smith, her parents Francis and Helen Baran, and her siblings Francis “Frank” Baran, Constance Lago and John “Jack” Baran.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 9-11am, followed by a prayer service at the funeral home at 11am. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in N. Arlington.
