Concetta Massa Obituary

Concetta (Mitola) Massa, 93 of Florham Park passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2022, surrounded by many of her children.

Connie stayed home for most of her life raising her six children. She was a hairdresser and had clients come to the house when the children were young. Then in the mid 70’s, Connie started working as a waitress and she did this for many years. After waitressing, Connie managed her son’s bar for a few years and then worked for her brother in his catering business.

Connie’s husband Anthony worked for the Postal Service and was also the NJ State Union President for over 25 years. Because of his position, they were able to travel to many places across the USA.

Connie and Anthony lived in Orange until 1963 and then moved to West Orange. There was always an open-door policy at the Massa home. Kids of all ages were welcomed all the time; in fact, Connie would very often cook meals for them, including her famous after basketball game pizza parties on Friday nights. The holidays and barbeques were endless and the Massas made so many memories in that house. They lived there for 31 years until they moved to Florham Park in 1994. At this time, all of their children were out of the house and most were married. One tradition was that every Tuesday night for many, many years, Connie would cook a family dinner for all her kids and grandkids. She loved to cook and her specialty was cooking Italian food. These “Tuesday Night Dinners” were special nights for Connie and Anthony. As her husband always quoted, “Connie was the best wife and mother around…there is no one better than her.” That clearly explained who Connie was.

Devoted mother of Anthony Massa, Jr., his wife Maryanne, Stephen Massa, his wife Tammy, Gary Massa, Francine O’Connor, Karen Massa and Diane Shulman, her husband Howard. Cherished grandmother of 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Philomena Mitola, Lorraine Tortorella and Rocky Mitola. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Concetta was pre-deceased by her husband Anthony Massa, her parents Peter & Rose Mitola, one sister and four brothers.
