Charles J. Shanley, Jr., “Skip”, 85, formerly of Union, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023.
Charles, better known as Skip to all who knew and loved him grew up in Newark, NJ and attended Barringer High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Skip told many stories of his times on the USS Leyte and his travels abroad during his service. Skip worked as a Brewer for Anheuser Bush for 32+ years, cooking for his colleagues almost every day. And he had a long retirement.
He enjoyed a good meal, especially lobster dinners and fried seafood. A man of a few words who would easily reminisce about the good old times. He had the most fun traveling with his brother and confidante Chris to Ocean City Maryland, walking the boardwalk, playing Keno and enjoying the freshest seafood. Cocktails by the piano bar topped an ideal OC night for him.
Skip loved the water and being near the beach, especially in Lavallette at the Crabs Claw, and at the Lobster House in Cape May. He was a big fan of the NY Yankees and of Tennis.
His family brought him great pride. Skip was a devoted father to his children Coleen, Skip, his wife Danielle and Bobby. He was very proud of his grandchildren, Jessica, Ronnie, Brooke, Madelyn, and Bobby Jr. He was selfless when it came to them. Skip leaves behind dear cousins, Judith and Candace. He was pre-deceased by his brother Christian.
He certainly wouldn’t want to see anyone shedding a tear for him. He would rather you raise a glass in his honor and enjoy life! He had a good one.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Sunday from 11am – 1pm, immediately followed by a prayer service at the funeral home at 1pm.
