Carmella “Camille” (Nardone) Mazzonna, 88, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Camille was the daughter of Luciano and Lucy Nardone, both of whom immigrated from San Giorgio a Liri, Italy. Her family later moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey, where she was raised. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955, attended Upsala College, and worked briefly as a secretary before putting herself through nursing school at the Clara Maass Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1962.
While attending nursing school, Camille met the love of her life, Bruno Mazzonna, who had immigrated from San Giorgio a Liri, Italy. They shared common values, deep devotion, and a strong sense of family. They married in 1963 and remained faithfully devoted to one another for 63 years, standing side by side through life’s joys and challenges, and caring for one another through many health struggles with unwavering love and compassion.
Camille began her nursing career at Clara Maass Memorial Hospital, where she served as the in-charge night shift nurse for approximately one year. She later accepted a day position at the East Orange Veterans Administration Hospital, where she worked in several specialties, including Neurology, ENT/Plastic Surgery, Medical-Surgical nursing, and Orthopedics. She later continued her nursing career at East Orange General Hospital, where she last worked before retiring in 1991. Her years in nursing reflected her intelligence, discipline, and deep commitment to caring for others.
Together, Camille and Bruno built a life centered on family, love, and lasting memories. Among Camille’s greatest joys were raising their daughters, Linda and Lisa, loving and spending time with her grandsons, hosting parties for family, friends, and neighbors, and traveling with their many friends. She was a loving and dedicated wife, a beautiful and caring mother, and a proud grandmother who found immense happiness in watching her family grow.
Camille is survived by her beloved husband, Bruno Mazzonna; her daughters, Linda Nichols and her husband, John, and Lisa Sciortino and her husband, Martin; her cherished grandsons, Chris, Gideon, and Michael; her brother, Arthur Nardone, and his wife, Glenda; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert “Bobby” Nardone, and his wife, Theresa Nardone.
Camille will be remembered for her strength, kindness, devotion to her family, and the loving care she gave so freely to others throughout her life.
