Barbara Teresa Rummel, long-time resident of Florham Park, NJ, passed peacefully away at Morris Hall Senior Care
Communities in Lawrenceville, NJ on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the age of 93. Barbara was born February 10, 1927 in
Stockton, NJ to Stephen and Julia Sharp. She is survived by her two sons, Mark A Rummel and his wife Virginia of
Conyers, GA and Jeff Rummel of Princeton, NJ. She enjoyed and shared many memorable times with her two
grandchildren Julia Afton and John Matthew Rummel. She was predeceased by husband, Wilbur John Rummel, Sr., her
sister, Anne Sharp Rocklyn Ambrose and brother Stephen (Buddy) Sharp. Barbara grew up on a small farm in Stockton,
NJ and attended Van Dolah School where she was chosen to participate in the state wide spelling bee in Trenton, NJ.
After reaching the semi-finals it was discovered that she was underage and was disqualified from participating in final
rounds. After graduating from high school she worked along-side her mother at Eastern Air Craft which produced
aircraft during WWII. Much later in her life, she confessed to riding copilot on one of the plane’s test flights! After the
war, while working at Public Service Electric & Gas as a voucher typist in Newark, NJ, she met and fell in love with the
most wonderful man and shared 67 years of happily married life with him. For the first twelve years of marriage they
lived in Kearny, NJ and then relocated to Florham Park, NJ where she became involved in the school system working
with children with special needs and also becoming an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Barbara was full
of love, kindness, generosity and cheerfulness. She loved her family and friends and her life touched many others and
will be greatly missed by all.
