Anthony T. Davino, “Tony”, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 23, 2024.
Tony was raised in South Orange, New Jersey and graduated from Columbia High School before attending and graduating from Rutgers University. After graduation, he worked as a Parole Officer and then as a sales representative for National Cash Register. However, after his father became ill he went to work with him in Anthony Davino and Son and eventually took over the business as a contractor and businessman. In 2001 illness required cessation of work, a condition he always mourned- he loved to work.
Perhaps his love of life began when, at the age of 3 he was run over by a truck, and although he miraculously recovered, despite pain and illness throughout his life, he never became bitter. He was talented and knowledgeable in many ways, so much so a friend and client called him the Renaissance man.
His other great pleasures were his family - be it dancing at loved ones weddings-no matter the distance to get there or the many family gatherings in the oversized dining room he built specifically to accommodate these events. In fact, his home was dubbed “Tony World “ because of the fun, joy and love that could be found there.
He loved horses and when he moved from Short Hills to Morris Township in 2018, to his great delight his property bordered a park that had a riding trail and several times a day one could hear him yell HORSE as a rider was passing by. Rubbing the belly of Rosie, his beloved black lab, going to Atlantic City, playing board games, watching the Yankees, going to the Jersey shore each year with10 or 15 of his long time friends and attending his nephews and nieces activities were among the activities that made him smile.
When the Society Savoia Club, an Italian American Club in South Orange, was in financial difficulty he took over as Secretary Treasurer, usinghis business acumen, energy and time to keep it running, much to the delight of the members.
Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was his way of making one feel special and welcome in his home and his life.
No doubt, his kindness, endearing smile and twinkling blue eyes will be remembered by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of 40 years to Lucille (LaCosta) Davino, he is also survived by his dear cousin Elizabeth Davino, Sister-in-law Frances Davino, Sister-in-law Mary Ann D’Arco, Sister- in-Law Paula LaCosta, Brothers -in -law Paul LaCosta and wife Susan, Robert LaCosta and wife Vincencina and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.
Anthony was pre-deceased by his parents Anthony and Antoinette Davino, his Sister Anna Gechtman, her spouse Robert, Brother Salvatore Davino and Sister Elizabeth “Betty” Habedank , her spouse George, as well as his Brothers -in -law John LaCosta and Michael LaCosta.
