Anthony Longo Obituary

Anthony J. Longo, “Tony”, 95, of East Hanover, formerly of Orange, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was pre-deceased by his wife of 68 years, Mary Longo, his parents Vincent and Mary Longo, and was the last surviving of 12 siblings.

Devoted father of Anthony A. Longo, his wife Jamie, Camille Araps, her husband Frank, Richard Longo and his wife Rosalie.  Cherished grandfather of Cristina, Frank Jr. and his wife Nicole.  Proud great-grandfather of Brendan, Shane and Paige.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tony was raised as a child in hard times during the depression. He attended the Orange, NJ school system and during high school competed in an amateur boxing league. He later served in the US Army after WWII and was stationed in Germany and then in Panamá.

Tony met his beloved wife, Mary, who was his best friend’s sister. He raised his family in West Orange while working for the Orange Postal Service as a letter carrier and president of the postal union. For a good part of his early years in marriage, he also worked secondary jobs as owner and worker in a moving business and then a painting business to support his family. He eventually was promoted to manage the West Orange branch of the Postal Service.

Tony loved his family dearly and enjoyed engaging with his children in telling all kinds of stories, both scary & so funny. He was surrounded by many friends, mostly fellow postal workers, who joined their families with his family on many get away vacations along the years.

He enjoyed playing golf and in his retirement years he became a golf ranger at the East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, NJ.

In his elder years, Tony suffered from dementia. It was difficult for his caring family to watch the diminishing condition of such a strong and loving husband and dad.
