Anna Marie Mykietyn (nee Luciano) of Brick and Livingston, NJ, passed away peacefully with her loving family on August 8, 2024, at the age of 92. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a wonderful role model who will be missed by many. Anna was a gentle soul who was passionate, inquisitive, endearing, an avid reader, and baker extraordinaire.
Anna began a long and rewarding career in business, first working for Robert Kean and the Livingston National Bank, and then as paralegal for the late Senator David W. Dowd, then Peter Stewart at the law firm of Carella, Byrne, Bain & Gilfillan, and later for the late Charles Judge, Esq. After retiring from the legal field, she continued to work long into the semi-retirement years managing the medical practice of her brother-in-law, Dr. Adolf Senft. Anna’s tremendous work ethic and no-nonsense ability to tackle and complete any project was greatly admired by her employers and co-workers alike.
Throughout her life, Anna’s parents, siblings, children, nieces and nephews sought and relied upon her business acumen and wise counsel. She selflessly made herself available to assist her family in any way that she could.
Holiday gatherings were a highlight in Anna’s life, and she planned and prepared endlessly to make them special occasions for all. Memories of Christmas Eve Feasts and Easter Brunches will forever be remembered and treasured by her children and extended family.
Upon full retirement, Anna and her husband John moved to their summer home in Brick, where an open invitation existed to all for fishing, crabbing and where they continued to host many family gatherings filled with laughter and love. Though she greatly enjoyed the beautiful and serene setting of her home on the bay, Anna cherished the opportunity to regularly go back to Livingston to the home of her beloved daughter Annie.
Anna’s passing brings to mind a sentiment shared by Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Whenever she left your company, Anna left you feeling better than you did when your encounter began. Her smile and the exuberant kindness she shared with all will be sorely missed. Her passing leaves a hole in the fabric of her family that cannot be filled.
May the memories of a life well-lived and of the boundless love and affection given, sustain and comfort all those grieving her loss. And should you be lucky enough to hear someone say “Come in – sit down – have some cookies” …remember Anna, smile and think of her with love, … and pass the cookies.
Anna is survived by her beloved husband John, her children Daniel Whitenack (Shirley), John Mykietyn, Anna Mykietyn, her grandchildren Daniel, Jessica, John and great grandchildren Landon, Rowan, Maryn, Emma, and Olivia.
She was predeceased by her parents Leonard and Antoinette Luciano, her siblings Nicolina Luciano, Lucille Hoermann, Salvatore Luciano, Beatrice Salemme, Dolores Freeman, Theresa Castelli, Patricia O’Brien, and Gloria Szumaski. Survived by her siblings Anthony Luciano, Janet Senft and Leonard Luciano. Anna is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends at Leonardis Memorial Home, 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 4-7 pm. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:00 am at St Rose of Lima Church, East Hanover. The interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
