Andrew Di Sessa, Jr., “Dee Dee”, 89, of East Hanover, passed away on June 1, 2023.
Andrew was born in Newark NJ and attended Barringer High School where he met his wife of more than 50 years, Carole Sarno. He graduated from Seton Hall University with an MBA. He then served in the United States Army. He lived with Carole and their three sons in Newark and Bloomfield for years before settling in East Hanover NJ. Andrew was a math teacher in the Parsippany school system. During that time, he also refereed soccer, basketball, baseball and girls’ softball. He could be seen during the summer selling Little Jimmy’s Italian ice. After retirement from the school system, he worked with the Leonardis Memorial Home for 20 years. Andrew was active with the Florham Park Elks and East Hanover Italian American Club. He currently held the position of Chaplin for the Elks and was one of the founders of the Italian American Scholarship program. In recent days before his passing, Andrew could be found watching his grandchildren playing sports and spending time with his fellow Elks at the club.
Devoted father of Drew and his wife Kate, Kenny and his wife Terri, Gregory and his wife Ana. Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Danielle, Nicholas, Kasey, Samantha, Sofia and Andréa. Proud great-grandfather of Gabriella, Madelyn and Jaxon. Dear brother of the late Phyllis Petrelli, her late husband Frank, brother-in-law of Joseph Sarno and his wife Lorraine, brother-in-law of the late Madeline Stella and her late husband Anthony. Andrew was pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Carole Di Sessa, his parents Felicia (Derra) and Andrew Di Sessa, Sr. and his sister Phyllis Petrelli.
Visitation at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral on Thursday, assembling at the funeral home at 9am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 10am. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
