Allan J. Clelland, 93, of East Hanover, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on February 13, 2025.
Beloved husband of 69 years to the late Jean (Krenkel) Clelland. Devoted father of Scott Clelland and his wife, Kimberly, and Bryan Clelland and his wife, Robin. Cherished grandfather of James, Alexander, and Austin Clelland. Also survived by Enid Haddock who provided love and care for Jean and Al for the last 5 years.
Allan was born in Hughestown, Pennsylvania in August of 1931, where he played both baseball and basketball in high school. He later moved to East Hanover, where he and his wife, Jean, raised their two sons. Allan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Muhlenberg College and a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University. After college, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France during the Korean War.
Allan had a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant at KPMG, where he worked for over 30 years in both the Newark and Short Hills offices. As a partner, he led the New Jersey Health Care practice, providing accounting, consulting, and financial services to hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities across the state. Even after retiring, he remained active in his profession, serving on the boards of children’s Specialized Hospital, Carrier Clinic and the National Institute for the Blind, as well as acting as Treasurer for Calvary Presbyterian Church in Florham Park.
A devoted husband and father, Allan took great pride in supporting his sons, coaching youth baseball, and leading a Cub Scout troop in East Hanover. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. He will be remembered as a soft-spoken, kind, and generous man.
Some of Allan’s favorite moments included vacations with his grandchildren, hosting holiday gatherings, and enjoying summers at the Jersey Shore. He had a passion for boating, bowling, and golf and was an active member of Calvary Church and the Couple’s Club.
Visitation will be held at Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Friday, February 21st, from 10AM – 12PM. Interment will be private for the family. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, February 22nd, 11AM at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Florham Park, with a repast to follow.
