Alfred James D’Alessandro, “Al”, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 18, 2023.
Al was born in Irvington, NJ where he lived with his parents and sister in a very humble two family house owned by his Italian immigrant grandparents.
After high school in 1957, Al was drafted into the United States Military where he joined the army corps, a feat in which he was fiercely proud. After serving his country for 2 years (some of which in Dachau, Germany), he returned to civilian life in the states and met the love of his life, the former Vicki Calabrese. His family was his whole entire world, and continued to be his top priority for his entire life. Just prior to marriage, he started a company in his grandfather’s small garage in their backyard. Marvic Corporation, specializing in countertop fabrication, grew steadily throughout the years, opening up 3 total large factories in north Jersey and receiving several awards. His accounts grew larger, stemming from residential and commercial jobs to celebrity homes such as Whitney Houston’s Mendham home and Martha Stuart’s NYC studio, stadiums such as Red Bull Stadium, and universities such as Rutgers and Montclair State. He worked until his final day 62 years later. The business is still thriving and family owned across the tri-state area!
Al and Vicki raised a family that will continue to spread their joy and love into the world. Al was a fierce family man who led by his extraordinary example. He spread love to those around him through his tireless action. Al never knew a stranger, never turned his back on those who needed him, and always acted on the love that filled his heart. He was a hero to his family.
There has never lived a kinder, braver, more generous, and more loving soul than Al D’Alessandro. His heart and his spirit were beautiful. Simply and astonishingly beautiful.
His legacy will outlive him because of the deep marks he left on every heart that was lucky enough to meet him. He has inspired a family whose mission is to love and protect one another, and to spread that love to all whose lives they touch. Al made this world better every single last minute that he spent on it. Now, his memory, and the good that he inspired, does the same. And it will do so for long after Al is gone. Al’s family will remember him every day of our lives, and the world will never forget his impact. How lucky we all are that Al lived, and how amazingly fortunate is his family to have loved and been love by such a singularly amazing man. This life we have spent with Al has been nothing short of a blessing and a miracle. We miss him so much.
Beloved husband of 61 years to Vittoria “Vicki” (Calabrese) D’Alessandro. Devoted father of Christine D’Alessandro-Donnelly, her husband Michael, Gina D’Alessandro and Michele D’Alessandro.
