Wai Chung
Lee
d. Apr 12, 2026
Wai Chung Lee, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in East Hanover on April 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Shanghai, Wai's life was a true testament to the immigrant experience and the pursuit of the American dream. He began his career in the restaurant industry as a waiter, working his way up through dedication, perseverance, and an unwavering work ethic. He went on to build a successful career, eventually owning three establishments. Among them, Bill & Harry's became his proudest achievement and a beloved staple of the East Hanover community. His success was hard-earned. He worked hard six days a week, yet carried it all with a joyful spirit and a constant smile.
Wai was known for his warm personality and generous heart. He loved food, traveling with friends, and singing songs from his homeland, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He was a kind and generous individual, always willing to offer a helping hand and to see the good in others without expecting anything in return. Despite the long hours and sacrifices, he never lost his lighthearted nature or his deep love for family and friends.
Beloved husband of Susan. Devoted father of Daniel and his wife Sharon. Cherished grandfather of Harper and Jackson. Dear brother of Donna, Nina, and Irene.
Visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park, on Sunday, April 19th from 12 to 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wai Chung's name to Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrant communities through housing, economic development, and social services. Donations may be made online at https://www.aafe.org/donate/ .
Though he is gone, his spirit and the joy he brought to others will never fade.
